We are a collective of Tz'utujil and Kaqchikel women from San Juan la Laguna, on the shores of Lake Atitlán. Since 2009, we preserve ancestral backstrap loom weaving techniques passed down through generations.
Every piece goes through the same three steps, all done by hand in our workshop.
Raw cotton is cleaned and spun into thread with a wooden spindle.
The thread takes its color from plants, bark and indigo, in clay pots.
The weaver ties the loom to her waist and builds the pattern thread by thread.
